We have created a automation for the protection of pedestrians and cars from floods. The idea was born from our school and the situation that prevails every time it rains heavily.
Every time it rains, the street outside our school floods. Something that endangers both pedestrians and drivers. To make matters worse, there is a primary school next door to our school, and small children cross this road every day. So that's when we decided to give a solution to this problem. To create this construction we used:
The automation works simply and efficiently. When there's no water on the road, the traffic lights are green, and there is a suitable message on the screens. When it starts raining and the road starts to flood, the water level sensors work, and the traffic lights change to orange , together with the screens who write ''pass carefully''. when the road is flooded, the traffic lights change to red, the screens write '' do not pass'' and the bars are falling. That's when the water pump starts working , and clean the road from the water, the water then is stored in tanks and can be used for fire fighting or irrigation. When the road is clean the bars go back up, the traffic lights go back to green and there's a suitable message on the screens, everyone can pass the road safely. This system could be used in underpasses that flood regularly in Athens. An idea for the future is when the road floods the system will send a message to the local fire department so they can make sure that nobody was hurt during the flood.
